Jolo, Sulu from the air

Jolo, Sulu

Jolo is an Island, and it is also the Capitol City of the Province of Sulu.  Sulu is probably the most dangerous place that you can set foot in Mindanao.  It is one of the few places that I have yet to visit in Mindanao, but I will go there one of these days when the time is right.  I did shoot this photo of Jolo while flying over the City on my way to Tawi Tawi.

Air approach

Approach

I must say that the most beautiful landing approach that I’ve ever made on an airplane is the approach to Sanga Sanga Airport in Tawi Tawi Province, Philippines.  Firstly, you fly in low, because you are only on a small plane, and secondly the view that Mother Nature gives is breathtaking.  Don’t you think?

Cultures of Mindanao

Mosque

Of course, Mindanao has a wide variety of cultures, and this view of a Mosque in Datu Paglas town, Maguindanao shows one of the cultures of Mindanao.  What a beautiful sight!  Although it is just a small town, Datu Paglas is a very progressive place!

Houses on stilts

Stilts

These houses on stilts are near to Basilan, actually just off Malamawi Island, which is a stone’s throw from Basilan.  I visited this area in 2007.  In this part of the ARMM (Autonomous Region of Muslim Mindanao) the people are really water people.  They grow up on the water, and living like this is in their DNA.  Not many traffic jams in this neighborhood!
