A virtual visit to Mindanao

Well, it’s actually not the City of Prosperity, it is the City of Prosperidad, Agusan del Sur! A small stop along the highway between Davao and Butuan. Notice how nice the road is? I took this photo in 2006, and the highway had just been completed! Very nice!

This is a building called the “CHP Building” in Surigao City. I took this picture during a visit there in 2007. I’ve been back since then, but the City has not changed too much!

Here I am in Agusan del Sur Province standing next to a pile of Palm Oil Fruit. These fruit grow in Pods and are pressed for Palm Oil, a very big thing in Agusan del Sur and other places in this part of Mindanao.

Are you a country boy (or country girl)? If so, you are likely to enjoy this place, I call it the “Home on the range” and it is located in Surigao del Sur, not too far north and west of Bislig City. Looks like a nice homestead!

The route between Surigao City and Dinagat is a path through many Islands. Here, another boat was riding alongside the boat that I took when I went to Dinagat in August 2009. It wasn’t really a race, but the boat I was on won anyway! Ha ha.

The Port of Dinagat is a small port on the West side of Dinagat Island, and a little South of San Jose. There is not much to see or do in this part of the Island, though, so you might want to go to San Jose instead.

San Jose is the second largest municipality on Dinagat Island. This is the Port of San Jose, one of the places where you catch a boat bound for Surigao City from the island. The trip from San Jose to Surigao City is about 1 1/2 hours on one of these boats, and the fare is P100.

Dinagat is really surrounded by a lot of little islets all around the big Island. Here you see a tropic islet with palm trees, just off the coast of the main island of Dinagat. Dinagat is Mindanao’s newest Province.
