The kids of Dinagat

Dinagat Kids

On my recent visit to Dinagat Island, I shared the boat to Dinagat with these kids and their Mom sitting in front of me.  What cute kids!  Actually, there was another one, but she did not make it into this photo!  The boat to Dinagat leaves from Surigao City, it is about an hour to an hour and a half to Dinagat, and the fare is P90.

Upscale house on Dinagat

Dinagat House

This “upscale” looking house is located near to the Port of Dinagat, a small port on the west side of Dinagat Island.  Looks like somebody has a nice place there!

The Dinagat Castle

Dinagat Castle

I recently visited Dinagat Island, the newest Province of Mindanao!  Here is a view of the “Castle of Dinagat” up on a mountaintop near San Jose.  It really looks like a Castle, don’t you think?

Tinuy-an Falls

This is Tinuy-an Falls in Surigao del Sur Province, not far from Bislig City.  Bislig is a small community on the Pacific Coast.  Unfortunately, Bislig is experiencing hard times due to woes in the timber industry, and the paper industry.

Surigao City Hall

Surigao City

I must say that the City Hall in Surigao City is somewhat simple, but at least it keeps the costs low for the citizens.  I’ve only been to Surigao City once, but I hope to return.

Storm a’brewin’

Storm Brewin

A storm is coming in over the mountains in Surigao del Norte Province.  This photo was taken of some rice fields about 30 minutes outside of Surigao City.  It started raining very hard, very quickly after taking this photo!

Spanish Church

Butuan Church

You won’t find many Spanish era Churches in Mindanao, except mainly down in the Zamboanga Peninsula.  The reason is because the Spanish never really conquered Mindanao to the point where had a real firm grip on the Island.  I saw this Church in Butuan City, though.  It has a Spanish look to it, but it is really not very old, and just made to look like the old Spanish Churches.

San Francisco

Sfo Municipal

This is the Municipal Building, or Munisipyo of San Francisco, Agusan del Sur.  San Francisco is a small town, but a nice little place to visit!

Lake Mainit

Lake Mainit

This is Lake Mainit, in Agusan del Norte Province.  It’s a very large lake, and quite beautiful too.  Init means “hot” in the local language, Bisaya, but I don’t think that the temperature of the lake is any hotter than it should be!
