People’s Champ on Pioneer Avenue

Pioneer Avenue

You’ve heard of Manny Pacquiao, right?  Manny is the People’s Champ, and he is from General Santos City, and you can see him on the sign above the Jolibee Store on Pioneer Avenue in General Santos City!

Cotabato City Hall

Cotabato City Hall

Talk about grandeur!  This is the City Hall of Cotabato City, in Southern Mindanao.  A beautiful building with a typical Muslim or Arab type of architecture.  Quite beautiful.

General Paulino Santos

General Paulino Santos

The founder of General Santos City was General Paulino Santos, and here you see a statue of him in the Plaza in General Santos City.  I understand that recently the Plaza was refurbished and updated, but I’ve yet to visit since it was worked on.  I’ll make it there soon, though!

Sultan Kudarat Capitol

Sk Capitol

This is the Capitol Building in Isulan, Sultan Kudarat Province.  It’s sure a beautiful Capitol Building too, don’t you think?  My wife and I were given a special tour of the building when we visited, including a tour of the Governor’s Office, the Hall of Kings and the Hall of Sultans.

Pinapple as far as the eye can see

Pinapple Forever

In much of South Cotabato Province, it’s Pineapple as far as the eye can see.  And, this is Dole Country, so you can be sure that these are Dole Pineapples, growing near to Polomolok, South Cotabato, about halfway to Tupi!  Delicious and also beautiful!

Sarangani Capitol

Sarangani Capitol

This is the Capitol Building in Sarangani Province.  The Capitol of Sarangani is in Alabel, and it’s a beautiful spot indeed!  The flags are at half staff in this photo due to the fact that it was taken shortly after the death of former Philippine President Corazon Aquino, in August 2009.

Welcome to Pikit

Welcome Pikit

I have visited Pikit, North Cotabato a number of times, and I have to say that I kind of like the place!  Pikit has the reputation of being a war-torn place, and indeed it did suffer suffer some battles, and some aerial bombing during President Estrada’s “all out war” against the Muslims in 2000.  I found the place quiet and peaceful, though, and enjoyed my time there.

Fruit Vendor

Fruit Vendor

When I visited Cotabato City in 2008, I saw this lady selling Lansones fruit in the downtown area.  Cotabato City is right in the middle of Maguindanao Province, but it not part of the Province.  Cotabato City is also the Capitol of the ARMM (Autonomous Region of Muslim Mindanao), but is not part of the ARMM.  Very strange, don’t you think?
